Dr. Desiree Domacasse
Desirée is a health scientist and therapist who has worked exclusively with mothers since 2016. She holds an MSc in Health Sciences with published research in the field, and her clinical practice focuses on the somatic and psychological dimensions of matrescence, the distinct developmental transition into motherhood. Her therapeutic work is grounded in the hormonal cascade that defines the postpartum period: the collapse of oestrogen and progesterone, dysregulation of cortisol, shifts in GABA signalling, and their downstream effects on cognition, mood, immune function, and tissue recovery. She argues that matrescence warrants the same clinical framework as adolescence, a recognised, multi-system life stage rather than a collection of isolated symptoms to be managed reactively. Desirée has spent a decade identifying the structural gap in Dutch postpartum care: the abrupt discontinuity between postpartum care and longer-term clinical support, during which hormonal depletion, nutrient deficiency, and psychological distress often go unaddressed.
